Questions I’m often asked.

If your question isn’t answered here, please reach out — I’ll get back to you personally.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you’re asking the question, that’s usually a sign it’s worth exploring. Therapy isn’t only for crisis. Many people come in to better understand themselves, work through patterns that feel stuck, or simply have a steady space to think out loud without worrying about the impact on the people in their lives.

What happens after I submit a New Client Inquiry?

I review every inquiry personally and respond within two business days. If we seem like a good fit, I’ll reach out to schedule an initial consultation. If I don’t think I’m the right person to help, I’ll do my best to point you toward someone who is.

What’s a first session like?

The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what you’re hoping for, and any questions you have about how I work. There’s no pressure to share more than feels comfortable. We’ll move at your pace.

How long are sessions, and how often will we meet?

Sessions are approximately an hour. Most clients meet weekly to start, with the option to shift frequency over time as the work evolves and life changes.

Do you see clients in person or by telehealth?

Yes. Sessions are available both in person and through telehealth using a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

Do you work with individuals only, or also couples and families?

I work with individuals, couples, and families. Couples and family sessions are private pay only and are not billed through insurance. If you have questions about whether this applies to your situation, feel free to reach out.

What’s your cancellation policy?

I ask for 48 hours’ notice for cancellations. Sessions canceled with less notice may be charged at the full session rate, with exceptions for illness or emergencies. I’ll always try to approach these situations with flexibility and understanding.

Can I reach you between sessions if something comes up?

Yes. I offer secure messaging through the SimplePractice client portal for non-urgent matters, and I’ll do my best to respond in a timely way. I’m not able to provide emergency coverage between sessions. If you’re in crisis, please use the resources listed under the crisis question below, or call 911.

What if I feel like it’s not working?

Please tell me. That kind of honesty is one of the most useful things that can happen in therapy, and something I genuinely want to know. We can talk openly about what’s feeling off, adjust our approach, or explore whether a different kind of support might be a better fit. Your wellbeing matters more than continuity.

Can you prescribe medication?

As a licensed clinical social worker (LICSW), I am not able to prescribe medication. If medication feels like something worth exploring, I am happy to help connect you with a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner who can work alongside our therapy.

What if I’ve had a bad experience with therapy before?

That is more common than you might think, and it matters. A difficult experience usually says more about the fit than about therapy itself. I take the therapeutic relationship seriously, and I would rather we talk openly about what has not worked before than have you push through something that does not feel right.

How much do sessions cost?

Current session fees are listed on the Fees & Insurance page.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. Full details are on the Fees & Insurance.

What’s kept confidential, and are there limits to that?

Everything you share in therapy is confidential. I won’t disclose anything about you, including whether you’re a client, without your written permission. There are a small number of legal exceptions: if there is a serious, imminent risk of harm to yourself or someone else; if there is reasonable suspicion of abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or person with a disability; or if I receive a valid court order. I will always try to discuss these limits with you openly.

How are my records stored, and who has access to them?

Your records are stored securely in SimplePractice, a HIPAA-compliant electronic health record platform. Only I have access to your records. Nothing is shared with anyone without your written authorization, except in the rare legal circumstances described above.

What happens to my information if I stop coming to therapy?

Your records are retained in accordance with Massachusetts law, typically for a minimum of seven years after your last date of service, and longer for minors. After that period, records are securely destroyed. You can request a copy of your records at any time.

How do you protect my privacy for telehealth sessions?

All telehealth sessions are conducted through SimplePractice’s built-in video platform, which is fully HIPAA-compliant and encrypted end-to-end. I take your privacy seriously and follow all federal and Massachusetts state requirements for protecting your health information.

What platform do you use for video sessions?

I use SimplePractice’s secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You’ll receive a link before each session. No downloads, accounts, or special software are required.

Do I need any special equipment or software?

Just a device with a camera and microphone. A smartphone, tablet, or computer all work well. You simply click the secure link I send before each session. No accounts or downloads needed.

Can I do sessions from anywhere, or do I need to be in Massachusetts?

Because I’m licensed in Massachusetts, you need to be physically located in the state at the time of our sessions. You’re welcome to join from home, your car, or any private space where you feel comfortable and at ease.

Where is your office located?

Two Lanterns Therapy is located in Howe Barn at Wadsworth Village in Danvers, Massachusetts. Wadsworth Village is a small historic office campus made up of seven restored buildings set on over two landscaped acres, offering a quiet and welcoming setting with ample free parking.

Our office is comfortable, light-filled, and peaceful, designed to feel calm and private from the moment you arrive. Conveniently located just minutes from Routes 1 and 95 and less than two miles from downtown Danvers, the space is easily accessible for clients traveling from across the North Shore and Greater Boston area.
